visual memories of the people, places and scenes of the Villages of Red Hook and Tivoli, the hamlets of Annandale, Barrytown and Upper Red Hook, and the rolling farms, forests, streams and river of our wonderful town.
Some of the images are from the archives of the Edgar Benson Historical Society, some from private collections. Some are sharp, some not so. But all are compelling for the stories they tell. Not the grand sweep of history but the precious heartbeats of everyday life, shared matter-of-factly with mostly unknown photographers.
Some of the subjects will be familiar, most won’t. But though their clothes may differ, their cars look funny, in them we recognize the comings and goings – the everyday heartbeats of our own lives.
